How to Keep Your Sewer Line Open and in Good Working Order

Drainage system and sewer line maintenance are necessary parts of keeping your home’s plumbing in good working order.

If you’re operating with a conventional septic system, we recommend having your septic tank pumped at least every two years. If you have public sewer service, a sand mound, or a conventional system and there’s sewage or gray water backing up into your home, you could have a clogged or collapsed sewer line. That might mean replacement or hydro-jetting—but the only way to know for sure is with a sewer line inspection.

Construction in the area, shifting soil and rocks, tree root infiltration, and corrosion are just a few causes of sewer line collapse, which will require sewer line replacement.

Another cause of a sewer backup could be a clog. Never flush wipes (even though they might be labeled “flushable” or “biodegradable”), feminine products, hair, paper towels, napkins, tissues—or anything other than septic-safe toilet paper. These items can accumulate in your sewer line and result in high removal and/or repair costs.

Our plumbers are equipped with implements like snakes, plumbing augers, and chemical drain cleaners. And if the clog is serious, we may have to dissemble the pipes to manually remove the blockage.
